Due to the energy dependence (imports more than 80% primary energy consumption) and the consequent high cost of energy (the electricity, net of taxes, coast Italians almost 40% more than the European average), Italy is losing ground in comparison with the economic European partners, with whom should instead pursue a more harmonious common energy strategy:

We believe that people should receive full information, delivered with honesty and without ideological prejudices: they must know the consequences for themselves and for their children, the decisions made with regard to energy policy and, especially, should not be deluded with promises that science most reliable and the most advanced technology can not help support.
Notwithstanding its paramount importance in all life processes, the energy needs of humanity for the renewable solar energy, in all its various forms, is certainly not the energy of this: it has met 100% of the human needs the dawn of time until a couple of centuries ago, whereas today the contribution of energy from the sun, if we exclude hydroelectric power, is - Italy as in the world - less than 1%. Nor will they see reason to believe that the future solar energy can make substantial contributions, in particular, it is unlikely, if not illusory, that the forms of solar energy other than hydropower can provide very significant contributions to the energy needs of our country . The wind power has already demonstrated in the country - Germany - more than any other that hath invested: very modest contribution is in fact the power that comes from more than 15,000 wind turbines installed therein approximately 3% compared to 30% from wind to nuclear power (whose installed capacity is in Germany, almost equal to the wind). Solar thermal produces hot water or air only, and to this end, the world uses less than 10% of its energy, of which the largest portion is consumed from the areas that may not make use of solar thermal and, in fact, it helps in world for less than 0.001%, also because it is much more convenient to use the energy from the gas or electricity in every building must still be connected. The world currently produces from all the new renewable sources combined - geothermal energy, waste, biomass, wind, and solar thermal and photovoltaic - less than 2% of the electricity it consumes. As production from these sources, Italy is already the third largest in Europe with 11 billion kWh produced in 2003 (on 10% of European production from these sources), but despite this, the electricity thus produced accounts for less than 4% of electricity consumed in the country.
Nuclear fusion and hydrogen, often cited as the technologies at hand, they are still at potential. The first is still limited to the stage of research with long-term prospects. As hydrogen - which is not a source of energy because it does not exist on Earth in the form used as fuel - its production requires more energy much higher than that obtainable by it, and for this reason its use on large scale is bound to the availability of abundant energy, economic and safe.
Today, the availability alternative to fossil fuels - polluting and increasingly expensive - is only offered by the technology of nuclear fission. A now well-proven technology, which is widely and safely used in most of the industrialized world, and can not hence continue to be excluded from our country's energy strategies.
